Why Cars?
I have been drawing cars since I was only a child. I preferred to do the drawings in perspective, even though I did not know that term yet. I purely drew what I saw and sometimes I even managed to draw a certain brand and model in great detail. Drawing was my ruling passion and I loved to earn my money with it. But that turned out to be more difficult than I had expected. My passion for drawing got me into the graphic profession and from 1984 until 1988 I received an advertising design-training. Nowadays manual work will not take you far in the advertising world, everything is computerised. After working with a computer mouse all day, the need grows to get to work with paper and pen
History
After I had finished the advertising design-school, I took up Visual Communication at the Media Art Design Education in Rotterdam. At that time I drove a Volvo Amazon (see picture above), but, as a student, I did not have a lot of money to spend. In order to get the car parts cheap, I joined the Dutch Volvo Classic Club. Then the idea came to me to sell or trade drawings and paintings for parts or repair work during club meetings. That was a success! Welding in exchange for a painting, parts in exchange for a drawing etc.
